There are various encryption algorithms you can use to secure your files, most of which require you to provide a password, which, based on its complexity, may be vulnerable to brute force attacks.

FinalCrypt is a Java-based application that takes a different approach, encrypting your data using a large cipher file, making it pretty much impossible to crack without access to that particular file. It features a simple UI and is quite easy to use.

The program is pretty straightforward, featuring a classic two-panel layout similar to that used by most file managers. In the left panel, you can browse to a specified folder and select the files you wish to encrypt, while the cipher file can be selected from the right panel.

FinalCrypt allows you to encrypt any number of files at once. All you need to do is select them all and click the Encrypt button. If you are processing very large files, you can even pause the operation and resume it later.

Once processed, files will be renamed with the .BIT extension and the original items will be deleted. You should make sure the cipher file is kept safe and backed up, as you will not be able to recover your data without it.

In order to access the files again, you need to run the encryption operation again using the same cipher file.  If you still find the interface to be complicated, you will enjoy knowing that each time you open the app you get a brief intro with a step-by-step guide on how to perform all actions from scratch to finish. More so, the "Info" sub-menu gives a detailed mini-tutorial on how you can perform actions faster and more efficiently.

FinalCrypt is a fairly simple application that can certainly get the job done, keeping your files safe using a cipher file to encrypt their contents. It is not at all difficult to use, but the decryption process may be somewhat confusing for first-time users.
