editor's review

Free EXE Password is a lightweight and portable piece of software that you can use to protect your programs with passwords, which particularly comes in handy when sharing the computer with multiple users.

Portability advantages

Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can drop the executable file in any part on the hard disk and just click it to run.
There is also the possibility to save Free EXE Password to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.
What's more, the tool does not create new entries in the Windows registry or Start menu, leaving the disk clean after removal.

Basic and straightforward interface

The interface is made from a single window with a plain and simple structure, where you can pick the EXE item using either the file browser or drag-and-drop support.

Enter a password and create file backups

So, all you have to do is enter a password and confirm it, as well as input a hint when running the locked EXE file. Additionally, you can back up the files to BAK format before processing with the encryption procedure. There are no other notable options available here.
Free EXE Password has a good response time and works smoothly, without causing the OS to hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. We have not come across any type of issues throughout our evaluation.

The conclusion

To sum it up, Free EXE Password is a straightforward software utility for password-protecting executable items, and it be handled by all types of users, regardless of their previous experience. Unfortunately, it does not integrate rich features.
