    Softpedia Editor's Review for KeyLemon

A simple solution to log on to your personal Windows account by using your face

Written by Bogdan Popa on November 16th, 2011

Although Windows comes with a built-in locking system, so that you can protect the operating system with a password, there are many, many ways to enhance this protection, but KeyLemon is one of the most exciting.

What this application does is actually to implement a different login procedure into Windows, so that you will need just your… smile to start using the computer.

Face recognition has been around for a while, but this is the first time we’re seeing such an app, and as far as we’re concerned, this could also be the future.

KeyLemon uses the webcam to recognize the face of the owner, mostly in the same way fingerprint readers do with fingerprints…

And even if it’s designed to do such an important task, it’s not too difficult to work with KeyLemon. The installation process takes just a few seconds, while configuration per se is just a matter of minutes. You have to own a webcam, obviously, so just record your face for instant authentication next time you start the computer.

In case face recognition isn’t exactly your thing, don’t be too afraid, KeyLemon also gives you the possibility to log in using the old-fashioned way, with a username and password.

We’ve tried the application on a Windows 7 machine and although we all agree that face recognition could be the future, KeyLemon may be not. There’s a lot of work to do when it comes to recognizing the user because we managed to get pass the login screen with different persons in front of the monitor.

But the overall idea sounds great, and until developers will roll out a major update, KeyLemon is at least worth a try.
