Softpedia Editor's Review for USB Port Locked

A small application to lock or unlock your USB ports.

Written by Bogdan Popa on January 6th, 2012

USB Port Locked is a simple Windows software solution designed to lock USB ports and thus block other users from plugging in their removable storage devices.

The application comes with two different builds, one that can be protected with a password and the other one that can be freely accessed by any user.

The interface makes the whole thing pretty easy to use because it all comes down to a couple of buttons that allow users to lock or unlock USB ports.

Keep in mind that USB Port Locked is effective only with newly plugged-in USB devices, so in case your flash drive is already connected to the computer, it's impossible to lock it. In addition, the application supports USB removable disks exclusively, which means it has no result when used for USB peripherals, such as mice, keyboards or webcams.

Besides the lock feature, USB Port Locked has two more utilities, one to delete the Autorun.inf file and the other one to explore the files stored on your local disks.

While the latter is more or less useless since Windows has its very own file manager, the Autorun.inf deleter blocks viruses spreading through USB devices from reaching your computer.

USB Port Locked works flawlessly on every Windows iteration, on both 32- and 64-bit versions, and the footprint on computer resources is absolutely minimal.

Overall, this is one great tool that can be safely used on public computers to restrict the use of USB ports, and thanks to its password protection feature it always comes in handy to system administrators too.
