Generally speaking, erasing items in the Temp directory should not affect the performance of your PC. However, depending on what files are stored there, sometimes deleting them is not possible as Windows considers they are still in use. Vacuum is a CLI tool that can help you clear all the obsolete items and junk from the Temp folder.

The app is portable so you simply need to download and decompress the archive in the desired location. Functionality wise, you can either hit the executable or open it with your favorite console. Regardless of the choice, the role of the tool is to clean the temporary entries that were not in use in the past month.

As you probably hinted, the latter option entails that you can use arguments and hence, you can add a path to the Temp file, configure the number of days for entry to be untouched, the amount of space to be cleared and force the deletion of entries that cannot be otherwise recycled.

According to the developer, the application is designed to check if the root and children of the files have been in use for the past period. It analyzes the creation and last write dates before it proceeds to cleaning. Once completed, the app displays a report with the items before and after cleanup along with the files recycled, force deleted and those that cannot be wiped.

By far the simplest and fastest way to clear up some space on your drives is to delete the temporary files. If you did not do PC maintenance in a while and would like to gain some storage by wiping all the data that you do not need or use, then perhaps you can consider giving Vacuum a try.
