Secure Delete

Seeing how files can be accidentally deleted, lost due to malicious software or damaged disk drives, various recovery applications are available to get them back. However, for security reasons, some files need to be permanently removed, task easily accomplished by utilities like Secure Delete.

It does not take a rocket scientist to put the process in motion. You can use the integrated explorer to locate the target file, or simply drag desired elements on the main window and the path field is automatically filled.

Unfortunately, the application only gives you the possibility to process a single file at a time. After items are deleted no post screen appears to inform you whether or not the task is successful, the utility automatically closing. It would have been useful to be able to make it available in the context menu for easier access.

The application's core function is letting you rest assured that processed items are forever lost. Features mentioned above are all fitted in a compact main window.

Before the “Yes” button, which starts the task, can be used, you need to tick a confirmation box. The number of times the Gutmann Method is used can be set to as far as 999. The more repetitions are done of the process, the harder it becomes for recovery applications to detect deleted files while scanning.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Secure Delete is a trustworthy little utility that can get rid of files once and for all. It lacks several features which would have taken it along the path of professionalism, but even so, it manages to get the job done quick and good.
