Lock it Easy
Protecting the data kept on a USB Flash drive may seem a simple task, but in many cases users tend to either forget about that or use vulnerable methods like simple passwords which can be broken in a matter of minutes.
There are more powerful means of safeguarding important files and many utilities that can help in this respect. Lock it Easy is one of them and it works by partitioning the drive and creating hidden zones where vital data can be saved.
Set the protection parameters from a friendly GUI
This program doesn't need to be installed, as it is ready to run as-is, but there is a major setback many users will have to face when trying to deploy it. More precisely, the application is designed for older versions of Windows and, unless you have a copy of XP at hand, you might not be able to use Lock it Easy.
In case you do manage to get it up and running, you will meet a simple interface, with several tabs, where all the functions are neatly arranged so you can adjust the security options with ease.
Quick configuration with advanced settings
The first thing you will be prompted to do when starting Lock it Easy is to create a master password, which you will be able to change at any moment from the dedicated module of the application.
With the passkey set in place, you can go for the more sophisticated protection that will make it possible for you to partition the drive and allocate as much space as you want for the private and public areas of the USB Flash drive. This can be done either by moving a simple slider or by typing in the exact dimensions for one of the two zones (the other value will change automatically).
An easy to use tool for old systems
Besides the fact that it is suited for any user since operating it is a breeze, Lock it Easy has some important drawbacks. Not only does it work only under Windows XP, but is also fails to recognize NTFS formatted drives and FAT32 USB drives seem to be the only ones to work fine with it.
