Mac Time Capsule

Mac Time Capsule is an intuitive software solution that enables you to create backups for the data on your Mac station and store the files on a Windows-based computer. The software relies on the Apple Bonjour and the Time Machine services to remotely connect to the Mac system.

While the OS X integrated service, Time Machine allows you to easily create backups for your data, it can only store them on other OS X hard disks or Time Capsules. With Mac Time Capsule, however, you can extend the list of supported backup locations to Windows-based computers as well. The application works as a bridge between the computers running different operating systems.

Mac Time Capsule is simple to use. You need to install and run it on your Windows computer, then enter your mac username and password. This way, the application acts as a server, allowing the Windows computer to be recognized as a valid backup location, by the Time Machine service on the Mac station.

The process requires configuration on both computers: simply open and start it on the Windows computer, then let it run in the background. You need to access the available network connections centre on the Mac and identify the Windows-based station as a valid location. Next, you can connect to it and create a data backup using Time Machine.

Mac Time Capsule ensures fast and reliable data transfer between the two stations, regardless of the fact that the operating systems are different. It is a suitable solution for backing up the data from your Mac to a secure location, such as a folder on a Windows-based hard disk.

Using Time Machine alone does not allow you to use a local disk on a Windows-based computer as a backup location. However, with Mac Time Capsule, you can transform your Windows hard disk into a virtual Time Capsule and use it as storage space for Mac backups. The files/folders that are subjected to backing up, as well as recurrence can be configured from Time Machine.
