Orion File Recovery Software is an application developed to help users recover lost or accidentally deleted files from the computer in no time. It includes an intuitive configuration set that is suitable for both novices and advanced users.

At initialization you can select one of the two main features - finding and recovering deleted files, or permanently removing them. Time spent looking for lost files can be reduced if you remember relevant information about the items in question.

Orion File Recovery Software is able to filter files by type (documents, images, music, video, custom, all), full or partial file name, and target location (My Documents, Recycle Bin, custom folders, entire drive).

In case your file was not found, you can look into all detected items. Their details include full path, size, date of creation and last modification, file type, and recovery potential. A search function is available for the results list. Instead of recovering a file, you can shred it to prevent unauthorized users from getting ahold of sensitive information using similar software.

As far as program settings are concerned, you can hide the wizard at startup, enable warnings when recovering a file to the same drive as the source, display zero-byte and completely overwritten files, show deleted cookies, and so on.

Orion File Recovery Software has a good response time, quickly finishes a scan job and uses a low-to-moderate quantity of CPU and RAM, so it shouldn't put a strain on computer performance. Since it can be minimized to the taskbar, it does not interrupt normal user activity.

Unfortunately, Orion File Recovery Software is not very effective. It failed in its attempts to detect recently deleted files from the computer during our evaluation. Users may look for more powerful similar applications, like Piriform's Recuva.
