Softpedia Editor's Review for Dead Pixel Tester
|
TFT screens have thousands of pixels, on a 1024x768 monitor, there are three cells for each pixel
Written by Bogdan Popa on November 7th, 2011
Besides stopping working completely, one of the most severe “diseases” of a computer monitor is the dead pixel syndrome that still can’t be prevented and continues to make thousands of victims everywhere around the world.
If you really want to find out if there’s something wrong with your monitor and conduct a full inspection, Dead Pixel Tester might be a handy utility in this regard.
What this program does is actually a simple thing: it helps you detect dead pixels by setting different colors as backgrounds, so that you can easily see if there’s a differently colored point on the screen.
There’s nothing much to do than to inspect carefully the whole screen, so you also need to put your detective eyes at work.
The application can cycle through several colors, but also comes with a bunch of options to help you detect a dead pixel easier.
Instead of solid colors on the background, you can also stare at patterns, colored bars, a checkerboard, waves, spinning circles and many others, just to identify if a certain point is different from the others.
In case you do find a dead or a stuck pixel, there’s nothing much you can do and unless you’re an experienced user, it’s better to turn it in for service or replacement.
All in all, Dead Pixel Tester is an useful tool, that’s for sure, so in case you want to find out some bad news about your monitor, just give it a try.
