  IMPORTANT NOTICE

Windows Explorer enables you to manipulate files and folders on your computer and frankly, most people are fine with it and do not need more than that. However, if you are regularly managing files and want to be more efficient with these tasks, then you start noticing that the Explorer is missing some advanced features that could make your life easier.

Directory Opus is a file manager designed to be a replacement for Windows Explorer and that packs numerous advanced features and an enhanced functionality.

The application comes with a simple and user-friendly interface that includes three main sections. The left panel displays the tree configuration of your drives so that you can easily browse to the folder or file you want to manage. The other two panels display the contents of the directories and here is where you can perform all your file management operations.

The dual pane interface can come in handy when working with multiple folders as you can easily check out the content and switch between them to move or access files. The content is displayed with highlights and icons, so you can easily find what you are looking for.

In case the content of a folder consists of hundreds of files, then you can rely on the search function to find the data fast. In terms of functionality, the tool can perform numerous file management tasks, including, but not limited to cut, copy, paste, delete, grab full path name, MD5 checksum, calculate folder size or selecting files based on various criteria, just to name a few.

You can color code the files, include star rating, tags, descriptions or assign a status, in case you need to make daily or frequent editing to a specific document. Other noteworthy functions include synchronizing data, finding duplicate files, joining or splitting, converting, rotating, making thumbnails or slideshows out of images.

Depending on your needs and preferences, Directory Opus can actually fully replace Windows Explorer. If you are not using Explorer at all and are happy with the tool, then you can use the Unique Explorer Replacement mode.

What's new in Directory Opus 13.4.3 Beta:

  • Added optional different colors for the currently sorted column header (via Preferences / Colors and Fonts / Directory Opus Colors / Column Headers)
  • The standalone viewer can be made always on-top again. The window menu (click the titlebar icon, or push Alt+Space) has a "Keep On Top" toggle. You can also get a toggle button for use on the viewer toolbar/menus via Customize > Commands > Viewer > Keep On Top
  • Note that opening Customize or Preferences will reset the viewer to normal, to ensure the dialogs don't open behind it. The fullscreen viewer also disables the command, as it's inherently on-top when active. Viewers save their on-top state when closed, restoring it when the next one is open. Separate state is saved for normal and lister-linked viewers
  • In scripting, the list of shell properties returned by FSUtil.GetShellPropertyList() now includes all properties in the system, rather than just those marked as "column". This makes things like System.PerceivedType available. Note that the list will be a lot bigger now
