Folder Interrogator was made to interrogate folders, most files can be previewed, Pictures, MP3's, and Movies will be previewed, and ascii files will also be shown. Also it has basic text search functionality too.

I find it much easier looking at my download folders with this than using explorer because all pictures need loading up – waiting for a program to load, movies take even longer !!!, and MP3's well they are often a pain to play to just play a few seconds.
