PrintDir is a small-sized and portable utility that comes in handy if you're looking to print a list of all files and folders from a specific location, whether you are looking for particular items or trying to organize information in catalogs.
Since there is no installation involved, you can drop the program files in any location on the hard disk and just click the executable to run.
Another possibility is to save PrintDir to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.
An important aspect to take into consideration is that the app does not create new entries in the Windows registry or Start menu, leaving no traces behind after its removal.
Classical interface and simple options
The GUI is clearly outdated but it is simple to work with. By using a tree view you can navigate directories and locate files, as well as create a soft copy list in plain text format and view its contents. When it comes to printing, you can either print the files' paths in one column or five. There are no other noteworthy options provided by this piece of software.
Evaluation and conclusion
Unfortunately, we have encountered some errors during our evaluation when attempting to create a soft copy of the file list. But we must keep in mind that PrintDir has not been updated for a very long time, so it is likely to have compatibility issues with later operating systems. It is also not particularly resourcesful when it comes to its configuration set.
CPU and RAM usage was low during our evaluation, though. Thanks to its intuitive structure and options, PrintDir can be used by anyone with ease.
