It is often not very clear why there is so little disk space available on your hard drive even if it does not seem like you are storing a significant number of files. Old documents, large videos and duplicate items can add up, however, and finding them is not particularly easy.

ScanFolder is a straightforward software utility that can help you free up disk space by scanning for and deleting unnecessary files. It enables you to locate both large files and duplicates, and it is very easy to use, although it offers a fairly limited array of features.

When launching ScanFolder for the first time, you need to specify which folder or drive should be analyzed. The application lists the total number of files present in each folder, as well as the amount of disk space that is used up by each item in percentage form.

These files are sorted based on their format in the right-hand panel, making it easier to get an idea of which types of items are taking up the most disk space.

Once a scanning job has been completed, the program enables you to analyze the results in order to identify identical items that are stored on your hard drive more than once.

However, ScanFolder cannot help you deal with these duplicate files, as you have to determine which of them can be removed safely and delete them on your own.

The program is certainly not difficult to use, although it would have helped if at least some basic documentation were included.

As far as the user interface is concerned, it features a streamlined design, and it is possible to customize the dimensions of the panels freely.
