DefragExpress is an advanced tool capable of performing defragmentation operations on disk drives, in order to reduce fragments and ultimately improve file access time. It supports multiple defrag modes, a task scheduler, and file exclusions, among others.
Quick setup and simple GUI
Installing DefragExpress is a fast and easy job that shouldn't impose any difficulties, thanks to the fact that it contains only familiar options.
The tool opts for a classical-looking interface with a clear-cut structure, where you can view a list with available disk drives and study their information pertaining to the status, capacity, free space, file count, fragmented files and count, along with last defragged date.
Analyze and defrag drives
It contains a disk map that helps you figure out the status of clusters. You can begin by analyzing one or more selected drives and find out the optimization level. Defragmentation can be performed quickly or thoroughly, depending on the complexity of the fragments as well as the time you're willing to spend waiting for the task to finish.
Customize defrag settings
DefragExpress can apply fast consolidation, move directories close to MFT, move frequently used files to a high performance area, exclude large files, as well as defragment removable drives and Windows at boot time.
Furthermore, you can schedule defrag jobs for one or more drives, set the tool as the default defragmenter, or specify a post-task action (exit program, turn off computer).
Evaluation and conclusion
Analysis and defragging tasks may take a while, depending on your disk's size and applied settings. During this time, CPU and RAM is heavily used, so feel free to leave the PC unattended. No errors were shown in our tests, and the app didn't hang or crash.
Although it's not good-looking, DefragExpress has some pretty powerful features under its hood dedicated to disk defragging. Too bad it hasn't been updated for a long time.
