Softpedia Editor's Review for SDS (formerly SDS Shutdown Scheduler)
|
A utility allowing to automate shutting the system down or closing specified applications.
Written by Bogdan Popa on January 10th, 2012
SDS Shutdown Scheduler is a small Windows utility that lets you schedule automatic shutdowns or specific actions at a user-defined time or interval.
Although we've seen a lot of similar applications, SDS Shutdown Scheduler sets itself apart thanks to the simplicity it boasts, offering just a minimal interface with a few options.
It thus allows you to shut down the computer when the specified period elapses, when the computer is idle for a specific period, at a user-defined time or when a given application closes.
Stepping into the so-called “Advanced” side of the application brings a bunch of new options, which means SDS Shutdown Scheduler is also able to hibernate the computer, close a selected application or perform another task, such as breaking modem connection, shutting off the monitor, rebooting or locking the system.
In addition, this particular menu also offers some other settings, including a dedicated feature to take a desktop screenshot before system shutdown or release short warning sounds a few seconds before performing the action.
Although SDS Shutdown Scheduler works flawlessly on all Windows versions, we missed a “Minimize to Tray” tool that would allow the app sit in System Tray while waiting to perform a scheduled task.
The amount of resources it needs is very low and that's not at all surprising since it's such a small app, so you should be able to run it on both older and newer systems.
The conclusion is fairly simple: SDS Shutdown Scheduler is one of the tools to try, especially when looking for an easy to use application that needs just a couple of clicks to schedule a task.
