It is important in many situations to be able to keep a close eye on the CPU usage of various applications. The Windows Task Manager utility is normally most users’ choice, but it some cases an alternative may be required.
QuickSlice is a program that displays the CPU usage of every active system process, in percentage form. It is similar to the Pstat.exe utility, but it displays the information in a graphical format.
Following the short installation process, you will find the application in the “Program Files\Resource Kit” directory. Aside from the executable file, some brief documentation is also available.
Once you have launched the program, it will display a full list of active processes in a new window. These are sorted based on their process ID (PID), and their image name and CPU usage are displayed on the right.
The CPU usage is updated in real-time, allowing you to keep track of both stable processor usage and spikes that may indicate potential issues or events of interest.
The application window features a minimalistic design, with the information being displayed using a simple black font over a gray background. The CPU usage bars are shown in red for enhanced visibility.
