Simple to use Latvian keyboard layout that uses the apostrophe key as a character modifier in order to type with the necessary diacritical mark

editor's review

Apostrophe is a simple keyboard layout designed specifically for Latvian users. The application is designed to work on multiple Windows editions, starting with XP.

Installing the new layout on the system is a simple task, especially since the package contains files for both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.

Lightning-fast installation process

Simply double-click the setup file and the process is run immediately. The entire procedure completes in a blink of an eye, literally, since there are no dialogs or warning messages to slow down the operation.

There is no interface available and in order to benefit from the changes of the Apostrophe keyboard layout you have to enable it from the language options of the computer.

The operation is not complicated and anyone who had any trouble with the keyboard should be able to easily make the necessary modifications.

Modifying keys

Working with the new layout should be a pretty easy thing for users that need access to Latvian characters that have diacritics. In order to add the marks to the letters simply press the apostrophe key followed by the required letter.

The results are characters with diacritics. Typing in upper case is not different and before pressing the modifying key (Shift) the keyboard has to be notified that the resulting letter should have the diacritic mark by pressing the apostrophe.

Easy to use keyboard layout

Apostrophe keyboard layout for Latvian language is extremely easy to use and requires little time to get accustomed to the new setup.

The apostrophe key is not the only one acting as a modifier to obtain a new characters. Additional keys are the tilde and the right Alt. A full set of instructions is available on the developer’s page (Latvian).
