FireDaemon Zero

With the release of the Windows Vista and Windows 2008, all the interactive Windows services are now limited to running in an isolated desktop Session 0. The downside to this is that the only way to access Session 0 is by switching desktop via the Interactive Services Detection Service applet. Due to the difficulty of this procedure and the limitations it presents, this function is disabled by default within the Windows OS, meaning that the only solution is via third-party applications. FireDaemon Zero is an application for Microsoft Windows that allows you to easily switch back and forth between your logged in Windows desktop session and Session 0, bypassing the aforementioned limitations.

The backwards compatibility this program boasts allow it to run on all versions of the Windows OS, from 10 all the way to  Windows 7, Server 2008 R2, 8, Server 2012, 8.1, Server 2012 R2, 10 and Server 2016. It works by providing a System Tray Notification Area applet across all user sessions allowing you to switch back and forth between your logged in session and Session 0 all with one click. This starts up the  Interactive Services Detection Service for fast switching.

For those that share a PC with multiple users, you may be interested to know that the app provides the ability for a user to "steal" Session 0 control from another user, or to "kick" a user off an orphaned Session 0 session. Whenever you would normally switch to the Session 0 though methods like the RDP, you may encounter various problems, such as artifacts.  FireDaemon Zero can be used as a workaround to this problem since it can also redraw the desktop and windows of applications running in Session 0.

While this particular app is not exactly a common tool you could find in any PC, FireDaemon Zero can be used seamlessly by those that know what they are doing and what potential accessing Session 0 holds.
