This is an easy-to-deploy ActiveX / Java component that enables Internet Explorer to run Intel's online driver update service properly

editor's review

Intel Driver Update Utility is an ActiveX / Java component that provides access to an update scanner for Intel drivers.

Although there are many alternatives that can search for outdated drivers on your computer, most often, these are not free of charge and sometimes they fail to detect the existence of updates. This is good enough reason to perform such operations using a utility developed by the manufacturer itself, if possible.

Intel does provide such a service that scans the system, revealing the updates that are relevant to your computer, allowing you to download and install them on the spot.

The service uses an online approach, which can be evaluated in two different ways. Intel’s support page located here offers the possibility to scan the system right away, attempting to install an ActiveX widget in order to make the detection engine viable.

The second approach is aimed at Internet Explorer users who cannot start the engine for various reasons. The recommended solution in this case is to use the ActiveX component that you can install manually in order to enable the browser to support the service.

This ActiveX component is called System Requirements Lab, generally used for identifying the compatibility of the components on your system with various programs and games. In this case, it’s used to provide access to Intel’s scanner and to install drivers that are compatible with your hardware.

In a nutshell, you need to install Intel Driver Update Utility, the ActiveX version, when your Internet Explorer can’t manage to launch the Intel driver service properly. Deploying this package will help you to run driver scans properly.
