Often a computer game will have a windowed mode option but when you set the resolution of the game to match your desktop resolution you end up with a border around the window that causes the game to not fill the screen.
While full screen is often an option, it does not allow you to quickly switch out of the game and use other applications on your computer.
Maximized Window lets you take a game running in a window and remove the borders on it leaving you with a borderless window.
The window is also automatically shifted to the top left corner of the monitor so, assuming the game resolution matches the desktop resolution, the game will take up the full screen and appear as though it is running in full screen even though it is really a window (so you can quickly alt-tab in or out of it).
