Volume Limiter / Compressor

Volume Limiter / Compressor is a software program that was designed specifically as a live sound volume limiter and compressor, as the name clearly hints at.

The installation process can be bypassed with ease, as this utility is portable. In addition to that, it is not going to update the Windows registry and hard drive with new entries without your permission (as installers usually do), and no leftovers will remain on the disk after its removal.

Another important aspect is that you can copy the program files to a USB pen drive, so as to run Volume Limiter / Compressor on any computer you come in contact with, by simply clicking the executable.

The interface presents a pretty plain and simple build, as it consists of a few buttons, several slider bars and a few bars which enable you to track, in real-time, the long and current peak. While it is not so easy on the eyes, Help contents are supported, thus enabling all user categories to find their way around it.

The main window enables you to easily control the desired peak level, the attack (decrease) and decay rate, the minimum and maximum allowed volume, as well as the long peak sample time, volume adjustment time interval and current volume.

The colors of the long and current peak meters can be changed with the click of a button, while you can also pause the tool from actively controlling the volume.

In our tests, Volume Limiter / Compressor did not put a strain on the computer’s performance, as the CPU and memory usage is minimal at all times. The interface is not so appealing, yet lets you find all options with ease, regardless of your experience level. The response time is good and we did not come across any bugs or hangs in our tests.
