Failing to update your drivers may put your system at a disadvantage in terms of security and performance, among other things. Windows has gotten better at keeping everything updated, but it’s hardly perfect — for instance, AMD GPU owners are no strangers to Windows Update overwriting their drivers to an earlier version for no apparent reason, even during intensive workloads.
If you’re looking to do a general driver update for your system, then you may have better luck with a dedicated solution like WinZip Driver Updater, whose goal is to facilitate updating all manner of drivers for your machine.
While I’m of the opinion that if your computer is working without errors, there’s little reason to update any drivers, users noticing anomalous behavior can nevertheless try out this solution to see if there’s anything to do.
The program seems to be targeted towards a less experienced audience, so its functionalities are consequently easy to operate. Scanning your system for outdated drivers is a process that shouldn’t take too long, and from then on, all it takes to start updating everything is just a click away.
This is all very convenient, but if you’re on Windows 10 or 11, odds are most of your drivers should be already the latest available. As such, I would be more inclined to recommend this tool to someone on an older OS like Windows 8 or 7 — even so, I would rather upgrade to 10 or 11 at my earliest convenience if I were you.
I appreciated having a driver backup feature, which can make restoring your system from a failed update less bothersome. Usually, you would have to rollback to an earlier version, and even then, sometimes you’re better off wiping it altogether for a clean installation.
A scheduler function is available, so that the program can keep you posted about the latest versions for your machine, and it was also nice that the app automatically creates a restore point by default when updating anything.
WinZip Driver Updater certainly has its value, but if you’re on a newer OS, its proposition won’t likely do much for your system. Conversely, you can always check your laptop or motherboard maker's website for new driver updates, so you have plenty of options to consider.
