Now you can get a higher refresh rate than 60 Hz in the OpenGL/Direct3D modes if you still have the old nVidia Detonator drivers. #Refresh rate #NVidia bug #Graphics card #Refresh #Rate #NVidia
Graphic card issues are not a thing of the past, at least not yet, but now they tend to become more rare and not as cumbersome as with older video cards. In the case of some NVIDIA devices, there was a glitch that prevented users to apply refresh rates higher than 60 Hz in the Direct 3D and OpenGL modes.
A dedicated application to help eliminate this problem was developed independently. It is called nVidia Refresh Rate Fix MKII and addresses the aforementioned bug on supported systems. The program scans automatically the system it is running on and displays some basic information concerning the installed driver and gives an estimate on the outcome of using the fix.
First of all, the utility checks the device and NVIDIA Detonator version installed. nVidia Refresh Rate Fix MKII also assesses the ability to use compressed as well as the hexadecimal compressed mode formats.
If the video card and the driver are supported, that is to say potentially subject to the refresh issue, the 'Settings' tab will become available. Here is where you can adjust manually all the settings for resolution and refresh rate.
nVidia Refresh Rate Fix MKII enables you to choose from a drop down menu the desired value of the rate for a specific resolution. It is highly advisable to check the capabilities of the monitor prior to making any changes because if you accidentally select the wrong settings, you may damage the hardware.
Since the problem has long been fixed through an update of NVIDIA Detonator, most users would consider this utility obsolete. However, if there are still some old video cards running on some systems on which the update was not performed yet, it is most likely that the refresh bug may occur. For those special cases, nVidia Refresh Rate Fix MKII still remains the only answer.
