Azan Times

Desktop gadgets are lightweight tools designed to provide you with fast and easy access to information and frequently used applications. Although the Windows website no longer hosts the gadget gallery, there are still a wide variety of such useful programs out there. One of them is Azan Times, a gadget that is especially designed for Muslims who are far away from their country, allowing them to view the prayer times for their current location.

At the first run, the application prompts you to configure your exact address and timezone, which is the main condition for the program to work properly. You can enter the address and the GMT offset using the 'Settings' section. The gadget does not automatically adjust for daylight savings time, so you have to do this manually.

In order to calculate the location and the corresponding prayer times, Azan Times uses Google Maps, GBA-source.com and praytime.info.

Once the location is configured, Azan Times displays all the five prayer times (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha), together with the sunrise and the sunset time. When the clock reaches one of the prayer times, the application automatically rings the Athan, which is the traditional call-to-prayer.

The application only provides support for the calculation method offered by the Jafari school of thought and there is no other alternative there. Besides setting the geographical position, there are no other options to choose from.

Despite the lack of features and options, Azan Times is a simple sidebar gadget that can help Muslims remember the traditional prayer times no matter their location.
