Developed for the Yahoo! Widget Engine, Timer Widget is a small application that displays a timer directly on your desktop. It can be easily installed and configured, even by inexperienced users.
The interface of the tool is based on a small frame. In order to activate the timer, all you have to do is click any point of the area inside the window. If you want to adjust the minutes or seconds, all you have to do is click the plus or minus signs next to them.
Alternatively, you can open the right-click menu in order to select preset values, ranging from 2 minutes to one hour. Some of them are defined for specific purposes, such as brewing green or black tea, or for cooking pizza.
From the 'Widget Preferences' screen, you can make some changes to Timer Widget. Therefore, you can alter the default colors for the regular, running and finished time, as well as enable the widget to play a sound when the countdown reaches zero.
Thanks to the default options provided by the Yahoo! Widget Engine, you can make the main frame stay on top or below all the other windows, to ignore mouse events and to prevent dragging. Additionally, you can adjust its opacity level between 20% and 100%.
The small tool does not put a strain on the computer's resources, since it runs on a very low amount of CPU and system memory. It is very responsive to commands and didn't cause us any problems throughout our evaluation, such as freezing, crashing or displaying error dialogs.
However, the timer sound has a low volume and beeps only once. Unfortunately, it does not come with configurable options. Since the Yahoo! Widget Engine project has been discontinued, Timer Widget shall not be receiving further updates.
