Webster Dictionary / Thesaurus Search
Webster Dictionary / Thesaurus Search is a simple widget developed for the Yahoo! Widget Engine, that provides you with direct access to the dictionary and thesaurus databases on the Merriam Webster website. It is very easy to install and configure, as it doesn't comprise any configuration parameters.
The GUI consists of a small, rectangular window which can be moved anywhere on the screen and made to stay on top of other windows. Therefore, you can seamlessly use Webster Dictionary / Thesaurus Search while working in text editors, such as Notepad, Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer, or other utilities.
The search terms are inserted into two dialogs. Once you click the Go button, Webster Dictionary / Thesaurus Search brings up a webpage with their definitions on Merriam Webster, through your default web browser.
As we have mentioned before, the widget does not integrate any tweaks of its own. But, thanks to the built-in Yahoo! Widget Engine preferences, you can set the frame to stay below the other windows, to ignore mouse events and to prevent dragging. Moreover, you can set its opacity level to a preset value, ranging from 20% to 100%.
Webster Dictionary / Thesaurus Search does not put a strain on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM. It has a good response time and searches for text rapidly and error-free, without causing the Yahoo!-based platform to hang or crash.
Unfortunately, the Yahoo! Widget Engine project has been discontinued, meaning that Webster Dictionary / Thesaurus Search shall not be receiving further updates.
