Although the templates offer a starting point, you have the flexibility to customize and personalize them according to your preferences. OpenOffice Writer, for example, allows you to modify template elements, such as fonts, colors, and layout, ensuring that the final document aligns with individual or organizational branding.

You will be happy to learn that the numerous extensions and templates are mostly due to a very active community that often contributes additional templates to the library, expanding the available options.

One of the reasons why so many have remained loyal to Microsoft for decades is the compatibility across platforms and file formats. A less known fact to mention here is that while it supports a wide range of file formats, it may encounter compatibility issues with certain formats.

OpenOffice is compatible with a wide array of formats, including the ones available for the Office suite. On the other hand, I find the interface less intuitive and, even if it includes advanced features, they are harder to find. Moreover, it lacks the collaboration features that I’ve got used to.
