Convert XLS to TXT Files

XLS is a very handy format when one needs to store data in rows and columns, while also having the possibility to integrate charts and diagrams.

However, XLS files require specialized applications in order to be accessed, therefore users often convert them to other formats (like PDF, CSV or TXT) that can be opened with a wider range of utilities.

When converting Excel spreadsheets to text documents, the source files will be stripped of any graphics, and they will retain only the text data. If you are only interested in the plain text content, however, this will not be an issue, and the resulting document will be much smaller.

Some of these applications offer users the possibility to process several files at the same time or to convert each spreadsheet or workbook separately. Newer programs also offer support for the XLSX format introduced by Microsoft with the release of Office 2007.
