PNG format (Portable Network Graphics) was developed as an open-source successor to GIF. PNG supports 16 million colors as opposed to the 256 colors of GIF, therefore the former is best suited for large, uniformly colored zones.
PNG format is ideal for adjusting images, but usually they are distributed as JPEGs, since these files are smaller.
PNG editors can be used to modify the brightness, contrast and saturation of pictures.
Moreover, users can also rely on PNG editors to rotate, mirror, crop or watermark their images, while also exporting them to other graphic formats after the editing is complete.
