Launched in June 2011, Google+ is a social network meant to offer an alternative to those unsatisfied by the services provided by Facebook or Twitter.
Currently, there are numerous users who have accounts on all of these networks, so they require dedicated software tools to track their messages.
Google+ notifiers are standalone applications or browser-based utilities that allow users to view a discrete pop-up box whenever they receive a message or one of their friends has posted a new link.
In order for these apps to function, the user needs to initially specify their account's credentials, without being requested to do so again. Some tools support adjusting the alerts' frequency, whereas others rely on the default settings of Google+.
