7z is a compressed archive format with high compression ratio and strong encryption due to the LZMA compression method it uses.
Additionally, the format can process extremely large file sizes (up to 16,000,000,000 GB) and also supports Unicode filenames.
Created by Igor Pavlov for his 7-Zip application, the format is widely supported and currently there are numerous applications that can create and extract 7z archives.
Additionally, there are some complex applications that will offer users the possibility to protect their archives with a strong password.
