Open NEF Files

NEF is an acronym for Nikon Electronic Format and it is the raw image captured by a Nikon digital camera. These files are saved in an uncompressed format that features exactly the data as it was captured by the camera.

Since they are raw images, NEF files cannot be printed and modified before having been saved to the PC then converted to other graphic formats.

Users who want to open their NEF images only need to choose one of the compatible graphic viewers that support raw formats.

NEF-compatible applications are not very numerous because NEF images are typically converted to other formats rather than stored as NEFs.
