DVD (the acronym for Digital Video Disc) is one of today's most common optical disc storage formats.

Although DVDs have the same size as a CD, they are capable of storing from six times (in the case of a normal DVD) to twenty four times (in the rare case of double-sided, double-layer DVDs) as much data as CDs.

Depending on the way information is stored on the disc, there are several types of DVDs: re-writable discs (DVD+RW, DVD-RW or DVD-RAM), recordable discs (DVD+R or DVD-R) and read-only (DVD-ROM).

Needless to say, these discs require compatible hardware and software in order to be accessible from a computer.

However, users will also be able to export video clips from their DVD to other formats that are supported by a wide range of multimedia apps.
