DWG format is used mainly by CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software applications for storing 2D and 3D design data and metadata.
Since it is the most widely used format for CAD drawings, this file format can only be opened and edited by specialized applications.
DWG viewers will allow users to access their contents without needing to have AutoCAD or another dedicated CAD application installed on their computer.
Furthermore, some DWG viewers also enable users to convert their files to other file formats that can be processed more easily.
