  • Overall performance improvements

New in AIM 7.2.5.5 Beta 2 (Mar 2, 2010)

  • This release brings this following changes:
  • Performance improvements for people that have a large number of Facebook friends.
  • Notification suppression so no more than 5 toasts will stack at any given time.
  • Reconnect enhancements for when a user returns from sleep or hibernate.
  • Facebook wallpaper is now optimized to show correctly when re-opening an existing Facebook conversation.

New in AIM 7.1.2.18 Beta 1 (Nov 8, 2009)

  • Ability to choose which services to push your AIM status. If you configure AIM to know your facebook or twitter accounts in lifestream, you will see icons above the status input area when you click to change your status. These icons will let you toggle on and off the ability to post your status back to facebook or twitter. This way, when you are saying something you want everyone to know, you can blast it out to your facebook or twitter!
  • Windows 7 improvements. If you are a Windows 7 user, you should notice that we are shipping nicer application icons that work well with the new Windows 7 taskbar. These icons will also change when you are away or idle, so you can see your state right in the taskbar. Because AIM is so awesome, you should take the time to right click and pin AIM to the taskbar for easy access. Just right click on the AIM icon while it is running and click "Pin this program to taskbar".
  • Improved upgrade mechanism. One recurring theme we've heard from both beta testers and regular AIM users is that they aren't thrilled by AIM's current upgrade mechanism. People don't like having to deal with upgrades and want it to be simpler to keep the software up to date. So we're working on that. AIM 7.1 introduces a streamlined upgrade mechanism that will download new versions in the background when they are ready and install them seamlessly on next launch. We'll test out this upgrade mechanism during the beta period and really want to hear about any issues testers run into.
  • A new look to notification "toasters" that appear in the lower right of your screen. Some people know them as "notifications", but in the world of AIM, we call those little windows that pop up in the lower right "toasters". They look like toast popping up, right? Anyway, we realized that they were a little tired looking, so we gave them a fresh look. We hope you like them. If you don't want these notifications, you can always go to settings->notifcations and turn them off.
  • Mail notifications now have subject and sender. If you use AOL or AIM mail, you'll get new mail notifications. If you get mail when you are online, instead of getting a notifications saying something like "you have 2 messages" the notification will now will include the subject line and sender of the message. It will also click directly to that message. We hope you AIM and AOL mail users enjoy this improvement.
  • Add button at top of buddy list. We've made it easier to get to the "add buddy" functionality.

New in AIM 7.0.10.18 Beta 6 (Sep 16, 2009)

  • The lag that some users were seeing in IM and chat should now be fixed.

New in AIM 7.0.8.15 Beta 5 (Aug 22, 2009)

  • Client became slow and starts lagging/hanging after using the client for a while
  • New Buddy Icon was not displayed anywhere on local client until next sign on
  • Photo status was not visible to pre 7.0 users
  • Using a ~ in text status would result in photo status not be able to be uploaded
  • WeeMee wallpapers were not working properly.
  • Lifestream count was not accurate when signing off and back on.
  • Invisible/Available icons get reversed on State menu if you are signed on at 2 locations and are toggling Invisible mode on the other location.
  • Systray icon did not show that you were invisible if you signed on in that state.
  • Buddy Icon no longer disappears from IM window when closing/reopening IM while in Video/Talk sessions
  • Other minor issues

New in AIM 7.0.5.40 Beta 4 (Aug 22, 2009)

  • AOL Radio is not yet supported (now under Menu -> AIM -> Listen to Radio)
  • Intermittent crashes at signoff/exit
  • IE 6 is not fully supported (we still recommend upgrading your IE version have the best experience)
  • Win 2K is not fully supported
  • On Vista and Windows 7 you cannot drag and drop to client in a session launched by the installer
  • IM background is now gray and covering expression wallpaper
  • IM text in classic mode doesn't work for users with immersive wallpaper
  • With a Background Color but no Text Highlight Color, moving focus out of and back into IM compose field will make Text Highlight Color white for that message
  • First IM received after minimizing all windows (with no IMs open) will continue flashing its titlebar after you put focus on it

New in AIM 7.0.5.38 Beta 3 (Aug 22, 2009)

New in AIM 7.0.5.30 Beta 2 (Jul 8, 2009)

  • The AIM team is happy to invite you to test AIM 7 Beta 2. This is a HUGE beta! A bunch of new features have landed that we think you will love. We've added things quickly, so please help us hunt for bugs and give us your feedback — what you like and what you think should be changed. Check it out, and thanks for helping us out as we build the next version of AIM!
  • What's new in this version:
  • Lifestream! This is big. Keep tabs on what's going on with your buddies. We've added a convenient "Lifestream" tab to the Buddy List. There is so much to check out:
  • Get AIM activities like status updates.
  • Got friends on other networks? Add your Facebook or Twitter services and never miss an update.
  • You can add your YouTube or Delicious accounts too.
  • Leave a comment, like an item. Obviously, if your friends don't have the beta they won't know about the Lifestream so if you want to try out commenting back and forth with someone make sure they have the beta too.
  • See only what you want, try out the handy filtering tool at the top of your Lifestream tab.
  • Share photos on your lifestream. Look for Photos section on the right of the page and start uploading.
  • Test out the rest of the site, including adding services (click settings at the top of your page), filtering, and more.
  • Me tab. The "Me" tab is a companion to the Lifestream that lets you know when people leave you comments or "like" your updates. We've got a lot of work to do here, so be sure to check out Known Issues.
  • Colors/Themes for AIM! We're listening to your feedback and this was something a lot of beta testers wanted. We agree that one color for the buddy list is boring and we think you'll find the new themes even better than the themes we had in the past.
  • Saved Away Messages. We heard the community loud and clear on this one. People like their saved away messages. They are back!
  • Better Buddy Info. Buddy Info now includes lifestream.
  • Improved Conversation Bubbles. You can now choose between "modern" or "classic" mode for your conversation text. We improved the modern mode greatly in this beta.
  • New stuff in AIM 7 that was in Beta 1 and remains in Beta 2:
  • New look and feel! We've got a redesigned user interface that we think you'll love.
  • Better performance. We've been under the hood tweaking the software to make it run faster and use less of your PC's resources.
  • Bigger buddy icons! What's not to love about that?
  • Buddy icon cropper. Click on your icon near the top of your buddy list and you can pick a picture off of your PC and zoom in on your face for a great buddy icon.
  • Big status entry area. We make it really easy to see your current status message. Also, when you change from online to away we'll put your cursor in the status message so you can tell people what you're up to.
  • New advertisement size and placement. We think the new ad fits better in the buddy list and hope you agree.
