  • Camera Raw now offers a robust color grading tool - three-way color wheels - which provide powerful color controls for shadows, midtones, and highlights at the same time. You can also adjust the overall color of your image using the Global control. Color Grading replaces Split Toning and provides more control to adjust colors in your image. Take your images to new creative heights by adjusting the color wheels in any combination to create subtle, vivid, complementary, or contrasting looks.

New in Adobe Camera Raw 12.4 (Aug 18, 2020)

New in Adobe Camera Raw 12.3 (Aug 18, 2020)

  • The June 2020 release of Adobe Camera Raw (version 12.3) rolls out multiple new features along with UI enhancements, adds support for new cameras and lenses, and fixes several issues.
  • Experience an enhanced user interface:
  • Panels:
  • Easily navigate through and access edit, local adjustment, crop, spot removal, and other tools from the highly organized panels in the right.
  • Tools such as Adjustment Brush, Graduated Filter, and Radial Filter (local adjustment tools) are present in the right panel.
  • The Transform panel is renamed to Geometry.
  • The improved Curve panel allows you to switch between Parametric and Point Curve channels. You can make precise adjustments with input values for the point curve and the red, green, and blue channels.
  • Panorama/HDR Panorama merge:
  • The options to merge photos is now available in the context menu. To create a panorama or HDR panorama, follow these steps:
  • Open your desired photos.
  • Select the photos you want to merge from the filmstrip. Press Control+A to select all the photos.
  • Control-click (macOS)/right-click (Windows) to access the options to merge.
  • Select from Merge to HDR, Merge to Panorama, and Merge to HDR Panorama.
  • Filmstrip:
  • You can now choose to have the filmstrip in the left panel (recommended for portraits) or the bottom panel (recommended for landscapes). To change the filmstrip orientation, do the following steps:
  • Control-click (macOS)/right-click (Windows) the current filmstrip to access the context menu.
  • Select Filmstrip Orientation.
  • Choose between the options: Horizontal or Vertical.
  • In the same context menu, select Show Filename and Show Ratings and Color Labels to view the filenames and ratings of photos in the filmstrip.
  • Keyboard shortcuts:
  • The default keyboard shortcuts starting from Adobe Camera Raw version 12.3 are updated. For details, see Default keyboard shortcuts.
  • Apply ISO-adaptive presets:
  • Easily create a custom preset that adapts to different ISO values. You can then set this preset as the default setting for raw photos in Preferences > Raw Defaults. For details, see Set raw defaults specific to ISO values.
  • Adjust hue locally:
  • Access the Hue slider in the Adjustment Brush, Graduated Filter, and Radial Filter panels. This slider allows you to change colors in specific areas of the photo without affecting the rest of the photo. Ensure to select Fine Adjustment if you're adjusting skin tone for extremely precise hue adjustments.
  • Center crop overlay:
  • While cropping a photo, it is common to align a part of the photo exactly in the center of the frame. This was difficult to precisely do with a 3x3 grid overlay. You now have an option to use a 2x2 grid overlay while cropping a photo. This centered crop overlay guides you to precisely crop the centre of the photo.

  • Range Mask:
  • Range Mask works within the structure of the existing local adjustment tools to give you more precision with your local adjustments. One way to think of it is that Range Mask is a modifier that can be applied to a local adjustment, allowing you to create more precise selections with less hassle. Range Mask is designed to be easy to use, and the resulting mask can be further refined by nudging the sliders. Range Mask has two different modes to address two different types of color/tone-based masks: Color Range Mask and Luminance Range Mask

New in Adobe Camera Raw 9.6 (Jun 8, 2016)

  • Introducing Guided Upright:
  • We included Upright as a tool that helped Camera Raw customers easily straighten images, fix horizons, and reduce or eliminate the keystone effect in buildings. Upright works well when there are prominent vertical and horizontal lines. Not all images contain prominent lines, limiting the effectiveness of Upright.
  • Starting with Camera Raw 9.6, Guided Upright allows you to provide ‘hints’ that enable Upright to work its magic. You draw the vertical and horizontal lines directly on the image and Upright will automatically transform the image.
  • New Camera Support in Camera Raw 9.6:

New in Adobe Camera Raw 9.5 (Mar 17, 2016)

  • Camera Raw 9.5 has an updated visual interface designed to align with Photoshop CC and Bridge. Your color scheme within Camera Raw will mimic Photoshop and Bridge, and you can change your color scheme by visiting the interface preferences within the host application.
  • Bugs Fixed in Camera Raw 9.5:
  • Fix crash/hang in Camera Raw and DNG Converter on some Mac systems when saving multiple images.
  • Fix corruption issue that would prevent DNG images originally created by Parrot Bebop Drone devices from being opened after metadata updates.
  • Pressing the Option/Alt key while click-dragging on a perimeter handle of a Radial Filter will adjust only that side of the filter. This change in behavior was made to match Lightroom’s behavior. Previously, Option/Alt-clicking on a Radial Filter in Camera Raw would delete that filter.
  • Camera Raw Filter now displays the histogram and RGB color readouts using the assigned color space of the corresponding Photoshop document. Previously, Camera Raw Filter always displayed its histogram and RGB color readouts using the ProPhoto color space.
  • Improve quality of Boundary Warp for some panoramas.

New in Adobe Camera Raw 9.4 (Jan 28, 2016)

  • Introducing Boundary Warp:
  • Stitched panoramas often have non-rectangular boundaries. There are several ways to handle irregular boundaries. The most common approach is to apply a rectangular crop. This is straightforward, but important image details near the boundary may be lost due to cropping. Another approach is to use Content Aware Fill (in Photoshop) to fill in the transparent areas outside the boundary. This can be effective, but may require multiple attempts to obtain a satisfying (smooth, artifact-free) result. It can also be expensive and requires rendering out the panorama to an output-referred format. Boundary Warp is a feature that provides another approach to handling the irregular boundary of panoramas. The feature analyzes the boundary and warps the image so that its edges fit a rectangular frame.
  • New Camera Support in Camera Raw 9.4:
  • Fujifilm X70
  • Fujifilm X-E2S
  • Fujifilm X-Pro2
  • Leica M (Typ 262)
  • Leica X-U (Typ 113)
  • Panasonic DMC-ZS60 (DMC-TZ80, DMC-TZ81, DMC-TZ85)
  • Phase One IQ150
  • Sony ILCA-68 (A68)
  • Additional Updates in Camera Raw 9.4:
  • Nikon 1 J4 Camera matching profile support added
  • The panorama merging process should complete roughly twice as fast as ACR 6.3
  • Improved quality when applying Auto Straighten and Upright “Level” mode.
  • Metadata is added to merged panoramas to support Photoshop’s Adaptive Wide Angle filter
  • New Lens Profile Support in Camera Raw 9.4:
  • Canon EF, Canon EF-M, Fujifilm X, Nikon F, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax K, Pentax 645, Samsung NX, Sony A, Sony E, Sony FE

  • Addressed a bug that would ignore model-specific custom default settings for some cameras, including some Leica and Sony models.
  • Corrected occasional crash using Crop tool after a Merge operation completed.
  • Fixed an issue where state of HSL controls would be rendered incorrectly in GPU mode when applying Contrast or Saturation local control adjustments.
  • Addressed the issue of the SIGMA 50mm f1.4 ART lens incorrectly identified as Zeiss Milvus 50mm f1.4.
  • DNG Converter 9.4 now supports HiDPI displays on Mac

  • Fixed Bugs:
  • Improved quality of spot healing. Specifically, the improvement in image quality occurs in how the patched content is blended into its surroundings.
  • Fixed bug with panorama merge that could cause blend artifacts. This bug usually manifested as a highly darkened area and highly brightened area separated by a straight line (not necessarily associated with image content).
  • Fixed bug that caused variable-exposure panorama merges to appear over exposed.
  • Fixed bug that caused panorama and HDR merges shot with some Leica cameras to appear black.
  • Fixed a crash in the Merge preview dialog when switching from Perspective to another projection mode.
  • Fixed option/alt-key visualization for Basic panel sliders in GPU mode.
  • Fixed lens profile automatic matching logic for SIGMA 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC HSM (Pentax K mount).
  • Improved distortion and vignette corrections for Canon EF 16-35mm F4L IS USM.
  • Improved speed of Dehaze feature. Specifically, minimize the delay that occurs when turning on Dehaze for the first time on a given image.

New in Adobe Camera Raw 9.2 (Oct 6, 2015)

  • Dehaze as a Local Adjustment:
  • We added Dehaze as a global adjustment in the Camera Raw 9.1 release and are excited to see the widespread interest in the feature. We wanted to extend the functionality, and I’m happy to announce that you can now apply Dehaze as a Local Adjustment. This means that you can use Dehaze with the Radial Filter, Graduated Filter and Local Adjustment Brush.
  • Birds Eye View:
  • This is a fast way to navigate across the image, especially when zoomed in. It is similar to the existing feature in the Photoshop app itself.
  • Usability improvements to modal tools:
  • Modal tools include Spot removal, red eye correction, local adjustment brush, graduated filter and radial filter.
  • We’ve changed the behavior of the return and escape buttons when using a modal tool. In the past, they would dismiss the modal tool.
  • If there is an active correction typing return or escape will deselect that correction.
  • In the case of the three local correction tools (brush, graduated filter, radial filter), the radio button at the top of the panel will get set to “New” so that the next click will create a new correction. This saves a bit of cursor movement; you no longer need to move over to the panel in order to start work on a new correction.
  • If there is no active correction, the Zoom tool becomes selected. This matches the behavior of the Crop tool.
  • New Camera Support in Camera Raw 9.2:
  • DxO ONE (SuperRAW files from the DxO ONE are not supported)
  • Leica S (Typ 007)
  • Olympus E-M10 Mark II
  • Sony A7SM2 (ILCE-7SM2)
  • New Lens Profile Support from:
  • Canon EF
  • Canon FD
  • CONTAX 645
  • DJI
  • GoPro
  • Leica M
  • M42
  • MFT
  • Minolta SR
  • Nikon F
  • Parrot
  • PENTAX
  • SIGMA
  • Fixed Bugs:
  • Improved alignment results for HDR and Panorama merges. Note that this improved alignment technique may produce different results from merges in earlier Camera Raw versions, even for merges that had acceptable alignment.
  • Improved image quality for Sony A7R II for raw files captured using long exposures.
  • Fixed missing Camera Matching Profiles for Olympus Stylus 1 and 1s
  • Improve quality of display color management in GPU mode. Color and tone gradations are now smoother.
  • Improve quality of image while using Scrubby Zoom.
  • Fixed intermittent crash when using Red Eye tool.

New in Adobe Camera Raw 9.1.1 (Jul 30, 2015)

  • Adds raw support for new camera models.

New in Adobe Camera Raw 9.0 (Apr 22, 2015)

  • NEW FEATURES:
  • Merge to HDR and Panorama:
  • Combine your photos to produce panoramas and HDR images in ACR. The merged result is a DNG file and is saved to disk alongside the input images. If you are merging raw files, then the merge is performed using raw image data and the resulting DNG is just as much a raw file as the originals (and retains all the editing flexibility that comes with shooting raw). Because of this, you no longer need to edit your photos before merging.
  • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Camera Raw can now use the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) to speed up interactive image editing. The GPU is particularly helpful when using high-resolution screens, such as 4K and 5K displays.
  • NEW CAMERA SUPPORT:
  • Canon EOS 5DS

  • Swap: Click this button to swap Before/After settings. Keyboard shortcut: Press P to swap Before/After settings for the primary selected image only; press Shift-P to swap Before/After settings for all selected images.
  • Copy: Click this button to copy the After settings to the Before settings. This is useful for establishing a temporary “checkpoint” for your image editing session. Keyboard shortcut: Press Option-P to copy After settings to the Before settings for the primary selected image only. Press Shift-Option-P to copy After settings to the Before settings for all selected images.
  • The After preview image always reflects the current slider and tool settings (White Balance, Exposure, etc.).
  • The standard single-image view always shows the After state.
  • In the side-by-side and split-view modes, the Before settings are always shown on the left or top, and the After settings are always shown on the right or bottom.
  • The Preview Preferences dialog supports customizing the Preview modes used for cycling and some drawing options.
  • When using any tool other than Zoom and Pan (hand) in a side-by-side or split-view, changes are only allowed on the After view. Using the Crop tool will put you back into the standard single-image mode.
  • Zooming and panning on one view will automatically zoom and pan the other.
  • Pet Eye Correction:
  • The Red Eye tool can now correct bright pupils in animals. Select 'Pet Eye' from the new drop down menu in the Red Eye tool to locate and fix pet eyes.
  • Local Correction Changes:
  • Added a mechanism to quickly reset all local correction sliders (Temperature, Exposure, etc.) to zero: right-click on a local adjustment pin and choose “Reset Local Correction Settings” from the context menu. Another way is to click on a local adjustment pin, and then choose “Reset Local Correction Settings” from the flyout menu.
  • Added “Fill Image” to context menu for Radial Filter. Right-click on a radial filter adjustment pin and choose “Fill Image” from the context menu to resize the radial filter to cover the image area. (Shortcut: double-click inside the ellipse overlay for a radial filter adjustment to accomplish the same task.)
  • Other Features:
  • Added context menu to Histogram pane. The context menu can be used to enable Lab color readouts, even when the Workflow Options are set to another color space (such as Adobe RGB). The context menu and also be used to toggle the shadow, highlight, and gamut clipping warnings.
  • Added “Check All” and “Check None” buttons to Synchronize, New Preset, Save Settings, and Copy/Paste (Bridge) dialog boxes. These are shortcuts for checking all/none of the check boxes.
  • Added keyboard shortcut: When using the Crop Tool or Straighten Tool, press the X key to flip the crop aspect ratio (landscape to portrait, portrait to landscape).
  • Added explanatory note to Lens Correction “Profile” panel to indicate when built-in (metadata-based) lens profiles are automatically applied to the image.
