  • Basic Features (free):
  • Updated Major Cities list with more cities and more accurate coordinates.
  • When a Major City is selected, the name will also appear in brackets above the latitude/longitude coordinates in the main dialog, not just on the map and reports.

New in GreatCirc 2.3 (May 1, 2014)

  • Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed bug where colours incorrectly read from KML file in Batch Mode.
  • Fixed bug where altitude incorrectly read from GPX file. Note that GreatCirc does not use the altitude, but it preserves this information in Batch Mode in case the user saves to a KML output file.
  • Fixed circle coverage labelling in Batch Mode.
  • Fixed decoding of R circle command in formatted AMG files.

New in GreatCirc 2.2 (May 1, 2014)

  • Basic Features (free):
  • If the user selects a location from the Major City Selection tool, the name of that site will now be labelled on the map.
  • The Enter AMG Coordinates tool has been updated to allow the user to specify the original datum of the AMG coordinates. These may be AMG66, AMG84, or current MGA94. The AMG coordinates are then correctly converted to WGS84 latitude & longitude used by GreatCirc. Note that GreatCirc only displays latitude & longitude to 1 second accuracy.
  • Advanced Features (registered):
  • New "Save Path..." menu item allows the currently displayed path to be saved to an output file as a string of points, in a choice of formats including Google Earth compatible KML format. When on a Great Circle tab, the Great Circle path is saved. When viewing the Rhumb Line tab, the Rhumb Line path is saved. And when viewing the Coverage tab, the edge of coverage Circle is saved to file.
  • If the user selects a location from the User Site Selection tool, the name of that site will now be labelled on the map.
  • If the user has selected named sites from Major City Selection or User Site Selection, these names will now also appear in the Save Report output file.
  • User Site Selection tool now allows the user to pick sites (Placemarks) from KML format files, as used by Google Earth.
  • Batch Mode will now allow users to load and display data from KML format files, as used by Google Earth. Placemarks are labelled, and LineStrings are plotted, other KML data are ignored.
  • In Batch Mode, the user may now save any loaded map data to a KML format file. Combined with the ability to load and merge data from KML, GPX, AMG and MapList files, this provides a limited capability to convert files in these other formats into a KML output file for sharing with Google Earth users.
  • While GreatCirc does not use altitude information from GPX or KML files, this data is now preserved in case the user saves to a KML output file in Batch Mode.
  • If there is a problem loading a map data file in Batch Mode, now only the data from the offending file is lost, and any previously loaded data is retained.
  • New items in the Options menu of Batch Mode allow the user to control display of labels and place markers.
  • Report output files now show latitudes & longitudes to 4 decimal places.
  • The AMG input file format now includes a command to specify the correct Datum for the AMG coordinates in the file.
  • Bug Fixes & Other Refinements:
  • Fix bug in Major City and User Site selection tool so that alphabetical sorting of names is no longer case dependent.
  • Fix bug in Globe World View where the view suddenly jumps back to Greenwich meridian after unzoom.

  • Batch Mode will now allow users to load and plot GPX format (GPS eXchange Format) files used by common GPS software. Waypoints will be labelled, and Routes and Tracks will be shown as connected lines.
  • In Batch Mode, when opening a new input file, the user is now given the option whether to replace existing data, or append the new data to the existing plot.
  • In Batch Mode, users can now save the map plot data to a simple maplist TXT file. eg. when two input files have been appended together, or when data has been loaded from a GPX or AMG format file.
  • In Batch Mode, user can now change font and font size used for text labelling.
  • In Batch Mode, when the map is zoomed, the user can now use keyboard arrow keys to move the view around.
  • Batch Mode still starts with the window maximised, but if the user resizes the window to get a specific bitmap image size, settings will be remembered next time he runs Batch Mode and clicks Unmaximise (Restore Down).
  • GreatCirc now warns the user if one of the selected points will not be visible when switching to Mercator projection (eg. if too close to poles).
