New in KDE 4.8.0 (May 4, 2012)

  • new releases for some applications as well as updated binary packages
  • more fine grained packages for kdeutils: the kdeutils package has been split into ark, kwallet, kcharselect, kcalc, filelight, sweeper, kgpg and ktimer
  • there has been a lot of work going on in the build infrastructure: the transition from python 2.7 to python 3.2 gave us some work.
  • depending on the release date, we plan to backport the release 2.4.0 of the calligra suite.

New in KDE 4.7.4 (May 4, 2012)

  • new releases for the IRC client Konversation, which is now available in version 1.4, the 1.1.1 release of the personal finance manager skrooge and some more applications
  • the first official release of Amarok on Windows in version 2.5 is delivered with the kdewin-installer now, after it has been released already as a standalone Installer
  • as a technology preview, the speech recognition software simon has been included (only in 32 bit though)

New in KDE 4.7.0 (May 4, 2012)

  • Although still not considered stable and suitable for production work, this release brings to the table a lot of new improvements worth trying:
  • all the goodness brought by KDE SC 4.7;
  • printing support in okular thanks to Ralf Habacker
  • a (test) version of the kdepim package thanks to Andre Heinecke and Andreas Holzammer
  • support for native 64 bit binaries: mingw-w64, the 64 bit flavor of gcc provided by the mingw-w64 project
  • support for debug packages - this was part of last years Google Summer of Code project and should help getting better feedback for crashes on Windows; thanks go to Ilie Halip again

New in KDE 4.5.4 (Mar 7, 2011)

  • This release is doubly important because it marks the return to the headlines of the KDE Windows Initiative after a lot of hard background work and because it brings the KDE SC 4.5 series to the Windows users
  • Improvements:
  • The lastest version of Phonon-VLC backend is available as the default backend;
  • Support for two new compilers: mingw-w32, a more updated distribution of Gcc for Windows provided by the mingw-w64 project, and vc100, the Microsoft compiler provided in Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition. These, in the future, will respectively replace mingw4 and vc90 (both of which are however supported in this release).
  • Aside from the software improvements mentioned above, the Windows team has worked under the hood to lower the barrier of contribution to development and community participation. This release itself is the result of a common release effort to fix the remaining compiling issues.

New in KDE 4.4.4 (Mar 7, 2011)

  • Contains mainly small bugfixes that further polish the user experience. Most notable are probably sorting fixes for natural sorting in Dolphin, our nice file manager

New in KDE 4.4.1 (Mar 7, 2011)

  • Among other improvements, this update includes a fix for KMail hanging when sending emails that just missed the deadline for 4.4.0 and a number of fixes in many gearheads' favorite terminal emulator, Konsole. As usual, this maintenance release also brings updated translations, but no new features

New in KDE 4.4.0 (Jul 12, 2010)

  • This release contains many bug fixes and some new applications.
