  • The new Intensive Optimization (O&O IntensiveOptimize), now available in the Modern UI of O&O Defrag, is the fastest and at the same time most comprehensive optimization for Windows disks to date.   • In O&O Defrag 25 the S.M.A.R.T. functionality has been integrated for the very first time. This indicates the “health status” of hard disks, SSDs and RAIDs whenever there is any problem. Such a problem could be a high temperature or an error reported by the drive itself. If there is anything unusual going on, a message will be displayed in the Windows Action Center. This functionality notifies users of any problems and gives early warning about any impending crash of a disk.

New in O&O Defrag Professional Edition 22.0 Build 2284 (Sep 19, 2018)

  • SSDs store file fragments spread across many blocks, even though much fewer would suffice.
  • This memory behavior has an immediate effect on the performance and lifespan of an SSD. To counteract wear and at the same time to optimize the performance of SSDs, O&O Software has developed the new defragmentation method SOLID. By using the defragmentation method SOLID, these distributed file parts are defragmented so that in the future significantly fewer memory cells have to be read out and also written to when changing a file. As a result, the SSD is faster as the number of read and write accesses is reduced by the defragmentation. In addition, the premature wear of the SSD (and of course the conventional hard drive) is prevented because fewer blocks need to be erased and rewritten than before the defragmentation with SOLID. To stay with our example above: To read our sample file, it is not necessary to first access and read 32 different blocks, but only a single one.

Instead of continuing to save the contents of data that’s no longer needed, the SSD can now use those freed areas for a driveinternal optimization of its data management. As a result, the SSD is able to process accesses significantly faster, and wear out on flash chips is kept to a minimum.
  • Filing drives into zones:
  • The division of drives into zones enables the logical separation of the data into performance critical and non-critical files. A special algorithm makes sure that the data on the disk is optimally organized after defragmentation. Files are organized and moved into zones depending on their intended use and the access frequency. For instance, system and program files, which need to be accessed very quickly, are separated from other data like documents and downloads. By the division of files according to their write frequency, it’s possible to intelligently prevent fragmentation. Thanks to this logical grouping, the program and system start time is shortened, future defragmentation can be run faster and new fragmentation prevented.
  • Three adapted optimized methods for defragmentation
  • Three methods - Optimize, Optimize/Quick and Optimize/Complete - facilitate the selection of the most beneficial defragmentation for a specific purpose. These new methods group your data into zones and combine optimally with the older O&O Defrag methods. These are, of course, still available whenever you disable zone filing.
  • Additional strategies to reduce fragmentation
  • Very large files with high-levels of fragmentation can also be efficiently packed together into a few fragments. The result is clearly measurable.

  • O&O products are always kept up to date with the newest technologies. As a result, O&O Defrag was developed and optimized for Windows 7. Of course, the new file system exFAT is also supported, which was developed by Microsoft specifically for flash drives.
