New in Online Armor Free 5.5.0.1543 (Feb 7, 2012)

  • Integration of Anti-Malware Network:
  • Unknown programs are immediately cross-checked against the cloud. The Online Database contains around 4 million entries and relies on the intelligence of the cloud. Programs considered harmless are automatically permitted, while annoying pop-up windows and alerts are omitted. So you can totally focus on your work!
  • New cloud-based scan:
  • Our cloud scan, already used in Emsisoft MalAware, has been included in Online Armor. Even if there is no record of a file in the Anti-Malware Network, more than 7 million signatures mean that malware can be recognized reliably to keep your PC safe.
  • Improved license and update system:
  • Software updates are downloaded and installed way quicker. Moreover, Online Armor relies on the license system used for other Emsisoft products. Access our Customer Center to find and manage the licenses for all your Emsisoft products in one place. Your Online Armor license key will be automatically transferred to the new system as soon as you use version 5.5 for the first time. Unnecessary key resets when reinstalling your OS are a thing of the past.
  • New pricing system rewards your loyalty:
  • The 1-year license is 25 % cheaper if renewed once the initial 1-year period has expired and will be a further 5 % cheaper for every additional year you renew it. Long-term customers can thus benefit from discounts of up to 50 %.
  • Fine tuning:
  • We have added news popups that keep you up to date with the latest Emsisoft news and fixed several potential incompatibilites, e.g. in combination with Ad Muncher or WinCrypt. As well as countless minor changes for improved user experience and best protection.

New in Online Armor Free 5.1.1.1395 (Nov 1, 2011)

  • Certificate verification bug on x64 during SCW – fixed.
  • Local help file added.

New in Online Armor Free 5.1.0.1331 (Sep 8, 2011)

  • Greatly increased compatibility and stability with other applications:
  • Improved the compatibility and stability of Online Armor in conjunction with products like Google Chrome, Sandboxie, Panda Cloud AV and others.
  • Overhauled white list settings:
  • Canged the white list settings slightly. In addition it is now possible to optionally trust all digitally signed files that were signed using a certificate that hasn't been used in connection with fraudulent or malicious activities in the past.
  • New upload feature:
  • You are not sure about a certain program? You can now easily upload it to the Emsisoft Anti-Malware Network and get the file scanned using Emsisoft Anti-Malware.
  • More than 100 other bug fixes:
  • More than 100 reported bugs and issues in Online Armor 5.0 are fixed in 5.1. Those fixes include for example a recently reported vulnerability with Sinowal drive-by downloads, freezes during the SCW, freezes when executing applications from network shares, various Online Armor GUI freezes, cases where Online Armor forgot about certain application rules as well as many others.

New in Online Armor Free 5.0.0.1097 (Apr 9, 2011)

  • New user interface:
  • Version 5.0 of the Firewall has a completely reworked user interface. This is based on the design of the other Emsisoft products. In addition to creating a unified product appearance for Emsisoft programs, the aim was also to greatly simplify the operating concept. The opportunity was also taken to improve the readability of the alert window messages displayed directly above the Taskbar System Tray when an alert is generated.
  • New feature: File & Registry Shield:
  • Online Armor 5.0 now also protects selected files, folders and registry keys from being changed. A rule system based on trust-level settings exactly defines the programs that have full access, partial access or no access to the protected areas. This provides special protection to the user against ransomware attacks, where important documents are encrypted and ransom money is demanded for the encryption key.
  • Improved self-protection:
  • Online Armor itself now offers improved self-protection on both x86 and x64 systems, giving you that additional peace of mind that your system is protected all round against manipulation from malware and hackers.
  • Alerts in the case of suspicious program paths:
  • A new feature is the Guard module that checks and blocks suspicious file paths such as double file extensions, which are still very commonly used in e-mail attachments (e.g. *.pdf.exe or *.doc.exe), Unicode paths (characters that appear similar) and supposed system files that are actually in the wrong location.
  • Over 400 improvements in various details:
  • Emsisoft works very closely with the user community. As a result of direct customer feedback, over 400 improvements to various details have been made when compared to version 4.5.

  • However, to prevent a situation where a user un-knowingly installs Online Armor on an x64 machine and incorrectly assumes full protection, the installer program needs to be run with of a command line parameter – consider this as 'informed consent'.
  • Therefore, to get Online Armor Premium or Online Armor ++ installed on a Windows 7 x64 machine, add the command line parameter "/dragonslayer" when running the installer.
