New in SPIP 6.6.0 (May 5, 2016)

  • BASIC MODULE:
  • New ImageMet Explorer Browser:
  • ImageMet Explorer™ has undergone a complete redesign with the release of SPIP™ 6.6. The look and feel of the thumbnail browser is updated, and the speed with which you can sort, preview, and find your relevant files in a simple, ordered manner has been increased substantially. Experimental details and unique data properties can be previewed, and thumbnail images are seasoned with hints making it easy to distinguish volume- and point spectroscopy images from other images
  • Many of the enhancements are implemented in response to requests from users of Omicron systems, who will experience a giant improvement for fast exploration of MATRIX files, making it easier to select data for analysis
  • Open specific channel for Batch Processing:
  • With the new ImageMet Explorer you can expand all multi image files in a folder and sort on channel number. With simple multi selection you can in this way select a specific channel from a number of image or curve files and process them automatically with the Batch Processing feature.
  • IV Curve marker synchronization in CITS images (grid spectroscopy):
  • With the new ”Synchronize” function, spectroscopy curve markers in CITS images can be displayed and manipulated in any related images helping the user to easily correlate electronic properties with for example surface topography.
  • Other new features and bug fixes:

  • Implemented AFM Workshop force curve format (.csv)
  • Omicron MATRIX time series bricklets are now automatically concatenated
  • Adjusted SDF file parser to also read files from Nextex Technologies

  • Fixed problem displaying some Omicron Scala SPS curves
  • Fixed problem with the Handle Steps option in Plane Correction, which would sometimes give a blank image

  • Force Curve Analysis Module:
  • bullet Corrected cross-section profiling of Force Volume images

New in SPIP 6.5.0 (Nov 28, 2015)

  • BASIC MODULE:
  • Force Volume Image Marker Synchronization:
  • With the new ”Synchronize” function, force curve markers in a force volume image can be displayed and manipulated in any related images helping the user to easily correlate for example the calculated Young’s modulus at a given position with the topography at that same position while simultaneously inspecting the corresponding force curve.
  • New Force Volume Mapping:
  • New mapping functions for imaging for example the “touch point” (zero indentation point) of the Hertz, Sneddon, DMT and JKR indentation models. This makes it possible to create a map of the almost undisturbed “true” surface.
  • Flexible Add Topography and force curve Alignment features:
  • If a force volume image does not contain topographical information a related height image can now be added so that the user can take advantage of the new mapping functions. Several ways of aligning force curves are now also available
  • Close All Windows except the selected one:
  • A new “Close All Except This” window function is introduced. This function closes all windows except the currently selected one, and thus is a big help for cleaning up the work space with the purpose of continuing working with a specific data window. In the ribbon the new function has taken the position of the old “Close All Except Main” function, which now appears with a smaller icon.
  • Other new features and bug fixes:
  • SPIP now also reads .ARDF force map files from Asylum Research SPMs. Like for the recently implemented force volume format of the Nanosurf FlexANA format, SPIP displays not only the force curves in a map, but also any dwell curves recorded, should the user want to for example study relaxation phenomena.
  • XY offsets are now applied correctly to Nanosurf .nid images, and the XY ranges are now always displayed positive right and up.
  • A problem with reading small JPK images correctly has been fixed. The problem only showed on images with only one or at least very few scan lines.
  • Overflow problem when saving an image with presence of area of interest markers as (16 bit) .bcr has been solved. The problem would result in strange contrast when the image was opened again
  • Fixed issue with image title color change not being reflected in the image window.
  • FORCE CURVE ANALYSIS MODULE:
  • Invalid points in force curves, both in single force curves files and in Force Volume images, are now replaced by “void points” instead of being padded with constant data, which would influence analysis.
  • Moreover topographic offsets present in the force volume files are now preserved allowing direct mapping of piezo heights and tip height positions without the need to add topography in a separate step. This affects files from: Nanosurf, Asylum Reseach, JPK, and Bruker (Nanoscope).
  • New ”Synchronize Force Curve Markers” function, see “Highlights” above.
  • For force volume images which do not contain topographical information (e.g. Nanoscope) SPIP™ 6.4.5 offers a new function for applying the topography of a related image related the force volume data set. Previously only the “Main” image could be added for equal deflection mapping. Now adding a topographic image to the force image is available for all force image analysis functions (Also mentioned in “Highlights”).
  • The "touch point" (point of zero indentation) for the various indentation models (Hertz, Sneddon, DMT, JKR) can now be mapped as an image allowing the user to get closer to the true unperturbed surface (Also mentioned in “Highlights”).
  • As a supplement to mapping the ”point of zero indentation” for the various indentation models, SPIP™ 6.5 can map the tip position (height) at the snap-in point, if present. This is useful for getting closer to the unperturbed surface when none of the indentation models apply.
  • In addition to generating an image of the tip surface separation at the point of final rupture/detachment, SPIP™ 6.5 can generate an image of the tip-surface separation at the point of maximum adhesion (or strongest rupture).
  • SPIP 6.5 offers new tools for aligning both collections of force curves as well as the force curves in a force volume image. They can be aligned “horizontally” to their minimum height or snap-in height or vertically to their snap-in force. Alignment is valuable before averaging force curves or for comparing details (Also mentioned in “Highlights”).
  • The previous “Average All Force Curves” function which had integrated alignment has be replaced by a new averaging function which does not make “hidden alignment”. Instead the user is now in full control and can align the curves first using one of the new alignment functions – or as a new possibility align manually in the Comparison View curve window.
  • Selection of the initially displayed layer in force volume images has been improved, so that the number of curves crossing that layer is high (Because force volume images now can have their curves offset according to topography not all curves will be crossing a given height layer)
  • The “Equal Deflection Auto Apply” option has changed name and meaning to “Equal Deflection Auto Update”, meaning that when moving a cursor in a force curve from a force volume image the Equal Deflection image will only be updated if it is already present - it will not as previously pop up.
  • Fixed missing visual update when the “Delete All” function in the force curve result table was executed.

  • Layer navigation in force volume images has now been made easier than ever with a new navigator popup tool
  • The time for calculating parameters for a large set of force curves has been reduced dramatically
  • New Defaults: Hysteresis correction and inversion of curves are now disabled as default. For indentation fitting (Hertz, Snedddon) the "Fit" option for finding the for "Point of Zero indentation" is now the default instead of "Auto" as "Fit" generally yields better results than "Auto"

  • Other new features and bug fixes:
  • New Feature:
  • Implemented the image file format for the RhoPoint Optimap(TM) surface quality measurement device
  • The cursor positions shown in the right side of curve windows can now be copy-pasted into e.g. Excel. This also includes calculated values such as void and material volume for histograms

  • IMAGEMET EXPLORER MODULE:
  • Fixed issue with occasional strange contrast in the image preview in ImageMet Explorer
  • FORCE CURVE ANALYSIS MODULE:
  • Asylum force curves (.ibw) are now read in Deflection Volts instead of Deflection (nanometers), so that one can directly enter the inverse of the "Invols" factor used in the Asylum software as the "Sensitivity" factor in SPIP.
  • Note that the Invols factor may sometimes be too big, resulting in backwards bending of Force (Separation) curves in SPIP as well as in the Asylum software). The Sensitivity factor in SPIP should be slightly increased to avoid this.
