  • An error that could occur in some cases when deleting the [Files] node has been fixed.
  • In rare cases wrong actions were listed in the quick access bar after an update of TreeSize Free. This has been fixed.

  • The previous Microsoft Store version of TreeSize Free is no longer available. Future releases from this version on will be published in a new project, which can be found here in the Microsoft Store. Please note that the old version will not be uninstalled automatically.
  • The set sort order is now saved even without activated detail columns and restored at program start.
  • Updating from V4.5.3 to V4.6.1 resulted in an incorrect entry in the list of installed apps in Windows. This has been fixed.

  • With TreeSize Free, individual PDF reports can now be created. The columns are exported as they are displayed in the Details list.
  • The columns of the Details list can now be activated and deactivated via a new dropdown menu in the “View” tab.
  • A new drop-down menu in the “View” tab offers a wider range of sorting options for the Details list.
  • TreeSize Free is now provided as a 64-bit application. This avoids rare compatibility problems under 64-bit operating systems, and the usable memory is no longer a limit for scanning very large file systems. If you still have a 32-bit Windows operating system, please continue to use V4.5.
  • The dialogue for adding scan filters has been renewed. The new dialogue is more user-friendly and offers additional functions for combining filters.
  • The export and print options can now also be adjusted in the “Scan” tab.
  • TreeSize Free is now also available in other languages: Norwegian, Romanian, Turkish, Bulgarian and Danish.
  • A bug that throws an exception when opening the error list when the dark mode is active has been fixed.
  • Fixed an error when compressing multiple files at the same time.

  • Changes to columns such as the width or visibility are now saved again and restored on restart.
  • In rare cases, an error could occur when TreeSize Free processed changes from the file system. This has been fixed.
  • Any errors when changing NTFS compression are now handled and displayed after the operation is complete.

  • The previous touch interface in Metro look has been removed. Instead, TreeSize Free uses the classic UI now and resizes the icons and fonts. The behavior when switching to Windows tablet mode is now nearly identical to Windows 10 Explorer.
  • The support for Windows Vista and Windows 7, as well as Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 has been discontinued with this release. For these outdated operating systems, V4.4 remains available for download on our homepage.
  • If multiple elements are selected in the directory tree during a PDF export, exactly the selected elements are now exported as a list.
  • The display on high-resolution screens has been improved.
  • An error when closing the preview window for the folder content via the escape key became fixed. This preview is available as an option.
  • The display of selected elements in the status bar has been improved. Selected items in selected subfolders are no longer counted twice.
  • The dialog prompting whether TreeSize Free should be restarted as administrator if a folder could not be accessed during the scan is now also operable via keyboard if TreeSize Free was started from the Windows Explorer context menu.
  • The free and the total storage space is now displayed in the status bar also for mobile devices.

  • Bugfix: When scanning a WebDav directory filenames may have been shortened and unexpected loops could have occurred. TreeSize Free now scans WebDav directories as expected again.
  • Some servers with Samba 3 have been recognized falsely as Windows Server. It is now possible to scan shares on such servers using TreeSize Free, as long as it is not executed within a Windows domain.
  • Under very specific circumstances the user interface of TreeSize Free could have been shown unexpectedly partly in German. This issue has been fixed.

  • The extended filter mechanism now allows hiding empty folders from view.

  • A new type of tooltip was introduced, which shows a preview of the content of the currently hovered-over element.
  • The position of the treemap chart can now be switched to the bottom of the window. This increases the available space for details columns, with the treemap chart shown in parallel.

  • TreeSize Free can now be switched to a column mode, in which it shows more detailed information about each file and folder.
  • You can toggle between the new and the classic view using "Show Details" in the "View" menu or the corresponding button in the toolbar.
  • You can show or hide columns by right-clicking on the column header.
  • You can sort the directory tree by the information in each column by clicking on the column header.
  • The additional size information in front of each folder name can be hidden by choosing "View > Show Details > Hide preceding values in Name column".
  • TreeSize Free now uses the master file table (MFT) for scanning local NTFS drives to improve the performance especially on HDDs. The MFT is only accessible if TreeSize is started as administrator.
  • The toolbar now adapts its icon size depending on the window size.
  • The new option "Show time with date values" will output file dates (e.g. "Last access", "Last change") more precisely.
  • Bugfix: After unchecking "Options > Show TreeSize in Explorer Context Menu", the menu item for TreeSize Free is now correctly removed from the Explorer context menu in all Windows versions.
  • Bugfix: TreeSize Free no longer crashes if the Windows display scaling is set to more than 200%.
