  • ZoomText's Freeze Window and Text Finder features are now available in ZoomText 10.1.

  • In the Windows 8.x Modern UI, each time the scroll bar was clicked on (e.g. clicking the arrow buttons), ZoomText's magnified view would jump to the first icon on the UI (in the top/left corner). ZoomText now keeps the scroll bar in view.

  • In the Windows 8 Metro News app, when clicking on various items, multiple extraneous tracking events would occur causing ZoomText to scroll to multiple locations before arriving at the correct location. The extraneous tracking events have been eliminated, providing a smoother experience.

  • When activating the Metro UI in Windows 8.x, ZoomText would sometimes fail to track to tile was given focus by Windows. Tiles on the Modern UI are now properly tracked.

  • You can now run ZoomText in multiple user accounts (simultaneous logins) and switch between the accounts using Fast User Switching.

  • In Windows Notepad, ZoomText's typing echo and SpeakIt Tool would only echo the first line of text. When pausing and resuming reading with AppReader, reading would always start over at the first line. These problems have been fixed.

  • When using ZoomText's AppReader to read PDFs and other document types Microsoft Reader (in Windows 8.x), at the end of each page, the magnified view would sometimes jump around before it continued reading on the next page. In addition, when pausing and resuming reading by AppReader, reading would sometime resume at the incorrect location. These problems have been fixed.

  • When using ZoomText's AppReader to read email in Microsoft Outlook 2013, occasionally AppReader's word highlighting would stop following the spoken word, mispronounce words, repeat paragraphs of text, and/or hang when reading email addresses. AppReader now reliably tracks, highlights and reads in Outlook 2013.

  • When using ZoomText's AppReader to read documents in Microsoft word 2013, each time reading was paused and resumed, AppReader would start at the beginning of the sentence rather than the word where reading was paused. In addition, AppReader would sometimes stop reading (get stuck) in multi-column tables. These problems have been fixed.

  • ZoomText would fail to track the Explorer window when using the Open command in Microsoft Word 2013. The Explorer window is now properly tracked.

  • When navigating cells in Microsoft Excel 2013, ZoomText was not tracking empty cells (to bring them into the magnified view). Empty cells are now tracked.

  • In Microsoft Word 2010, when ZoomText's Typing Echo feature was set to 'Keys and Word', ZoomText would echo each key (character) but not the completed words. ZoomText now echoes each key and each completed word.

  • If ZoomText 10.1.8 was installed (or earlier 10.1.x) with the ZoomText auto start option enabled, after updating to 10.1.9 the ZoomText auto start option would be disabled. This problem was isolated to the 10.1.9 update and has been fixed in the 10.1.10 update.

  • When the view locator was enabled in ZoomText's docked zoom windows, the locator (displayed in the 1x portion of the screen) would disappear behind the magnified portion screen. The locator now remains in view at all times.

  • In the presence of various 3rd-party software, ZoomText could be started but would appear disabled, and clicking the ZoomText button on the ZoomText toolbar would not cause ZoomText to become enabled. This problem has been fixed.

  • With the 10.1.9 release, attempts to launch the ZoomText 10.1 setup from a ZoomText USB drive could fail. This problem has been fixed.

  • With the installation of a specific Microsoft Windows 8.x service patch (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3013455) the ZoomText user interface would persistently stay on top of Metro apps and the Windows 8.x Modern UI (unless the ZoomText UI was minimized). Pending a proper solution from Microsoft, the problem has been solved by forcing the ZoomText UI to only appear on the Windows desktop.

  • Random instances of system hangs would occur when using ZoomText with Metro apps. These problems have been fixed.

  • ZoomText's AppReader and DocReader can now be used to read email in the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010.

  • Support for Microsoft Excel 2010 (32-bit and 64-bit versions) and Microsoft Excel 2007 (32-bit version) has been greatly improved in this release. Tracking, highlighting and reading are now fully supported when navigation and editing content in spreadsheet cells, the formula bar, comments.

  • ZoomText's "WebSupport" engine for Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) can now be enabled in Internet Explorer 8 (IE8); providing faster startup, accuracy and reliability in ZoomText's reading tools (AppReader, DocReader and SpeakIt Tool).
  • To enable the WebSupport engine in IE8:
  • In ZoomText's Help menu, choose Tech Support...
  • In the Fix-It Command edit box, type: WebSupport Add IE8
  • Click the OK button.
  • To disable the WebSupport engine in IE8:
  • In ZoomText's Help menu, choose Tech Support...
  • In the Fix-It Command edit box, type: WebSupport Remove IE8
  • Click the OK button.

  • ZoomText now provides improved support for OpenOffice applications. These improvements include the following:
  • ZoomText's tracking, echo and focus enhancements now work in OpenOffice application menus
  • ZoomText's cursor echo now works in OpenOffice applications
  • ZoomText now provides basic AppReader support in the OpenOffice Writer application (start, stop and arrow key navigation)
  • Important! ZoomText's support for OpenOffice requires that the Java Access Bridge (JAB) is installed and enabled on your system. Information and instructions for installing and enabling the Java Access Bridge can be found in an Ai Squared knowledge base article.

  • When ZoomText was running, attempts to launch 32-bit Java applications that utilize the Java Access Bridge would fail (the Java application would open momentarily and then close). This problem has been fixed.

  • ZoomText now provides greatly improved support for email and other web sites when running in Internet Explorer 9 (IE9).   • ZoomText can now be used with the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9).

New in ZoomText 10.0.5 (Sep 30, 2013)

  • When using Gmail in Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) or Internet Explorer 9 (IE9), ZoomText's reading features and tools would fail to work. These problems have been fixed.

  • In the Comcast email client, ZoomText's AppReader would fail to read the body of an email message. This problem has been fixed.

  • When attempting to run ZoomText with Thunderbird 14 a variety of crash behaviors could occur. These problems have been fixed.

New in ZoomText 10.0.3.2 (Sep 30, 2013)

  • The 10.0.3 update introduced support for IE9. In the 10.0.3 online update (obtained through ZoomText's update wizard) an incorrect component was included that caused problems with ZoomText's reading support in IE9, including slow startup of AppReader and DocReader, and incorrect display of the word highlight (for spoken words). This problem has been fixed.

  • In the 10.0.3 online update (obtained through ZoomText's update wizard) a required component for ZoomText's cursor and reading support in the Thunderbird email client was missing. This problem has been fixed.

New in ZoomText 10.0.3 (Sep 30, 2013)

  • Image of Enhancement Improved magnification and reading in Internet Explorer 9 (IE9):
  • ZoomText now provides smooth text magnification (xFont) and reading of web pages in IE9. Reading support includes ZoomText's AppReader, DocReader, SpeakIt tool and echo features (including echo of the IE9 browser cursor).
  • Image of New Feature Support for ARIA and HTML5 in Internet Explorer 9 (IE9):
  • When using Internet Explorer 9 (IE9), ZoomText now supports: ARIA landmarks and HTML5 tags for navigating page sections when using Web Finder, ARIA roles and attributes for announcing clearer descriptions of web page controls and other elements, and ARIA live regions to track and announce pop up bars and alerts (enabled by the Alert check boxes in ZoomText's Program Echo and Navigation > Tracking dialog boxes).
  • Image of New Feature Support for text cursor and reading in Thunderbird email client:
  • ZoomText now provides support for the text cursor in the Thunderbird email client, including cursor tracking, cursor enhancements and typing echo. In addition, ZoomText's reading tools can now read email that is open in its own window (as opposed to the preview pane).

  • Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese localizations have been added in this release of ZoomText 10.
  • Image of Bug Fix Reading and executing links works properly in Adobe Reader:
  • AppReader and DocReader will now read and execute links in Adobe Reader.
  • Note: When executing links a security warning dialog may appear according to Adobe Reader's Manage Internet Access settings. To view and change these settings:
  • In the Adobe Reader menu bar, choose Edit > Preferences. The Preferences dialog will appear.
  • In the Categories list, choose Trust Manager. The Trust Manager settings will appear in the right pane of the dialog.
  • Under "Internet Files from PDF Files", click the Change Settings... button. The Manage Internet Access dialog will appear.
  • Select the desired Internet access settings.
  • Click the Ok button.
  • Image of Enhancement Improved support for running ZoomText with JAWS:
  • Starting with ZoomText version 10.0.3 and JAWS version 13.0.900, ZoomText and JAWS can now be started and exited in any order (32-bit only).
  • Note: Prior to these versions, you had to start ZoomText before JAWS and exit JAWS before ZoomText. Starting and exiting in the wrong order could cause the system to crash.
  • Image of Bug Fix Brightness and Contrast adjustments for ZoomText Camera now spoken correctly:
  • When using the ZoomText Camera feature, adjustments to the brightness or contrast settings are now announced as "increase brightness" or "decrease brightness", and "increase contrast" or "decrease contrast".

  • With previous versions, the ZoomText USB backup utility would allow backing up onto itself, corrupting the USB device. The ZoomText USB backup utility no longer allows backing up onto itself.

  • NeoSpeech and ZoomText would crash when reading number sequences containing a string of numbers with decimal points between. This problem has been fixed.

  • When using ZoomText with Optelec USB CCTVs, repeated enabling and disabling of the CCTV would cause occasional crashes. This problem has been fixed.

  • When ZoomText had been running for longer periods of time, xFont magnification would occasionally stop working. This problem has been fixed.
