Chat rooms are a great way to keep in touch with your friends while you are engaged in various group activities, such as playing video games in multiplayer.

GTANet Chat aims to gather Grand Theft Auto players on dedicated IRC channels and offer them a common place to share game stories and discuss strategies.

Before joining a chat room, you have to choose a nickname and a password to login. This alter ego is used to identify yourself on every channel you join, although you are allowed to change it any time you want. To prevent other people from using it, you can register your nickname by associating an email address with it.

Once you have joined a channel, you can use chat commands to bring modifications to your display name, such as “/nickserv set kill on”, which forces your nickname to automatically change to guest##### if the server does not identify it within one minute from the time you join the channel.

If you desire privacy, or you just want to create a channel with a specific topic and avoid any other sort of discussion, GTANet Chat allows you to register a new chat room and gives you complete control over it, such as bans, channel settings and other administrative commands.

To be able to create a new chat room, your nickname must first be registered to avoid any later issues with people who happen share the same one. Once the channel is created, you can use the “/chanserv” command set to manage users and general chat settings.
