Optimize HTML

Optimize HTML is an application designed to clean up your HTML source code to make it easier for reading and editing. It does this by modifying various HTML, XHTML and XML headers.

There is no installation involved, so you can save the program files to a custom location on the disk or to a USB flash drive, in order to easily run the tool on any PC without previous setup. It doesn't modify the Windows registry settings. However, it auto-creates and updates a file with your settings.

The interface looks unpolished, making it difficult to figure out how the options are structured. You can get started by opening an HTML file to preview the original and optimized source code as well as design. Syntax highlighting is supported.

The HTML, XHTML and XML optimization options focus on fix-uri, enclose-text, escape-cdata, hide-comments, break-before-br, join-classes, numeric-entities, lower-literals, and uppercase-attributes, among many others. These are explained in a glossary section.

It enables you to select the character, input and output encoding mode, along with doctype, as well as to wrap words. Moreover, you can preview PHP files if you have a PHP engine installed, or view the tidy configuration file settings.

After optimization, Optimize HTML doesn't alter the original file but creates a new one in a predefined directory. It's not necessary to create backups before using it.

We haven't come across any problems in our tests, since Optimize HTML didn't freeze, crash or indicate errors. However, its interface needs a lot of work in the graphical department. We are also keeping in mind that it hasn't been updated for a while. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself.
