If you're thinking of putting a show on stage or any other place for that matter, than you probably know that the lighting system can either make it or break it for you. But that's just half of the problem, because lighting systems, no matter how good they are, are nothing without the software that's controlling it.
That's where Q Light Controller comes in. It was built in order to let people control their DMX and analog lighting systems. Unlike other software of the same sort, Q Light Controller comes free of charge, is easy to install and has a very friendly user interface.
If you work with lights on a daily basis, and you've used other light controllers before, then you can learn its ropes fairly quickly, but if you're inexperienced in this domain you should take a little time to learn the basics before diving into live action. Luckily, the included tutorial will guide you in the right direction.
When running the application, you'll notice that the Manager menu contains the most important components. When accessing it you'll find a Fixture, Function, Bus and an Input / Output Manager.
The Fixture window will allow you to create various definitions that inform the program about the fixtures you've created. For example, you'll be informed which channel changes the beam color or what channel can be used for pan movement.
If you want to see the functions that automate your light movements you'll have to access the Function Manager. Moreover, this window will also allow you to create, edit or remove the functions you no longer need.
If you're wondering what the Bus Manager does, know that it will actually help you set the names for the available 32 speed buses. But before you get to that, you need to know that a bus will allow you to set different speed settings for the functions you create.
The Virtual Console included in the program lets you build your own lighting desk. This way you'll be able to control all the light operations. All this is done with the help of widgets.
As you can see, Q Light Controller comes with quite an arsenal for creating a spectacular light show, now, all you have to do is let your imagination flow.
