4Easysoft MKV Converter

4Easysoft MKV Converter is an application with a pretty self-explanatory name - it allows you to modify the format of media files (e.g. AVI, FLV, FLAC, MOV, MP3) to MKV. But it can also prepare items for devices like iPhone, iPod, PSP, Zune and Xbox.

The app is packed in a clean and intuitive interface, which lets you import items by using either the file browser or "drag and drop" functionality. Encoding multiple entries at the same time is possible.

In the file queue you can check out the initial and output name and format, along with original and trimmed length (if you cut clips). With the default settings selected, you can simply establish the target format and directory, in order to start the encoding task.

Skilled users can fiddle with the audio and video settings in regard to the encoder, frame rate, resolution, bit rate, channels and frequency. Options can be saved to a new profile. Unfortunately, you cannot restore them to default.

You can preview videos in a built-in media player and capture frames (as JPEG, GIF or BMP), view original file properties, as well as merge and crop clips.
