Pictures of all kinds are found all over the web. They’re not just a bunch of pretty things to look at, but also provide proof of specific products and such. However, creating a website where you have to navigate through tons of incredibly large images can be frustrating, and this is where Generate Thumbnail comes in handy.

As the name suggests, the application is used to load a variety of pictures in order to have them resized to a specific set of values, but there’s a bit more to it than that. The whole process guides you through a series of steps, at the end of which you’re only a few steps from having an online image library.

The first step requires you to select the images you want to process. These need to be selected by the folder they’re in, with just a dedicated load button, and no other input method. You can add a second image folder to be used as optional elements, such as background, navigation graphics, logos, and more.

Pressing next brings you a bit closer to the end, but not before setting up image quality and other related settings. The output is only JPG, with a quality slider, as well as the possibility to use several popular resampling filters. Images come out in two types, one large of configurable resolution, while the smaller one is the thumbnail.

It’s only in step three that you realize the application is not only used as a resize tool. Here, you get to configure text that appears in the new gallery, with the possibility to set font options, arrangement, and colors to use for background, text, links, and visited links.

In case you have the website project opened, it’s possible to insert all the required code that’s provided in step four. Several tabs let you view and grab HTML code for thumbnail pages, their macros, HTML image pages, as well as corresponding macros. There’s no export option for the code, so you need to copy it from there.

Last but not least, you’re asked about the elements you want to create. You get to choose from the web page itself, web page and images for the first page, or the project all-together. You can get a preview of the first page, but your default web browser automatically opens up with a preview once processing is done.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Generate Thumbnail is a bit more than what the name tricks you into believing. It comes in handy for both resizing a bunch of pictures, as well as getting the required code to integrate an image gallery into your HTML projects. If this is what you need, you can rely on its set of features.
