Google Translate for Chrome is a handy add-on that brings one of the best translation services to your Chrome extension bar. For some of us, time is very important, and having to visit a page and type down words or whole phrases might be too slow at times. That's where the extension comes in, providing a quick method of translating words, phrases, and even entire pages.
After the extension is installed, it might import your browser's language settings. If you want to translate to the browser's language, you can skip this step, but if you want to change it, you might want to visit the Options menu first. Open the extension's context menu to do that.
The first dropdown menu, My primary language, deals with setting up the language you want to translate to. It might seem annoying to have to change languages from the options menu, but the extension's focus is on more immediate translations. For example, when having to translate parts of articles from a language that you're familiar with, but not able to fully understand.
First things first, let's get over how the translation occurs. If you click on the extension's icon, you will open a small UI with an input field. You can type your text in there and manually translate it, but there is a quicker way to translate. Simply select a piece of text, and the extension will automatically pop up the translation. However, you have to set it from the Pop-up translations menu first.
Google Translate for Chrome offers you three methods of translation display. The default method requires you to click on the icon after the text was selected. The second method, the faster one, provides the content immediately after the text was selected, without needing the icon to be clicked on. As for the third one, it appears to be kind of useless, and relate to the first one.
Google Translate for Chrome might be one of the quickest ways of translating. Of course, it has to be tweaked a bit in order to achieve maximum efficiency, but the low number of options will make that easier than it appears.
